Welcome

Today’s most complex social issues require equally versatile solutions. The translational science process is designed to respond to critical needs with cross-cutting research that integrates basic and applied findings while transcending disciplinary boundaries.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “Translational research includes …the process of applying discoveries generated during research in the laboratory, and in preclinical studies, to the development of trials and studies in humans… [and] research aimed at enhancing the adoption of best practices in the community. Cost-effectiveness of prevention and treatment strategies is also an important part of translational science.”

The sole purpose of translation science is to address complex, intractable social, behavioral, mental health and educational problems through practice and policy changes. In the social-behavioral-educational sciences, translation science focuses on effective research integration from laboratories to controlled field sites to communities and population centers. It embraces perspectives and methods from multiple research disciplines to solve significant social, behavioral, educational, and mental health problems.

The 2016 Interdisciplinary Translational Science Retreat will support UNL researchers in building bridges from laboratories to communities. Join us Sept. 19 for an opportunity to lead the conversation and launch future projects.

The retreat features a morning panel and dialogue that is open to the public, and an afternoon event for faculty interested in follow-up translational work group sessions.
