Changmin Yan’s research straddles persuasion and health communication. His research program includes translational research in digital health promotion and theory-driven research in persuasive health message design. He actively engages in translational research that helps health researchers translate bench research results into strategic digital health campaigns. Working on interdisciplinary grants totaling over $300,000, he often serves as an expert on the effects of marketing on health behaviors and on the development of strategic health promotion campaigns.
Yan’s recent projects focus on combining persuasion theories with behavioral change models to promote healthy behaviors. He aims to address obesity from the energy balance model perspective. His goal is to develop a stage-of-change guided message-tailoring program that promotes physical activity and healthy eating through interactive and mobile technologies, big data and social media, and geographic knowledge discovery.
