State-Wide Response-to-Intervention Consortium for Training and Evaluation
This 5-year project was initiated based on a request from Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) personnel and the Nebraska Response-to-Intervention (RtI) Ad-Hoc Committee. Recent legislation (IDEA 2004) now requires that states implement an RtI framework as an alternative to traditional special education identification and placement and as a means of serving at-risk students. An important long-range goal for this project is to promote successful use of RtI throughout the state of Nebraska. The primary project objective is to provide adequate infrastructure and training to integrate RtI statewide.
This project involves creating a state-level Consortium to coordinate and supervise training, implementation, and evaluation of RtI in the state of Nebraska. The project has five goals:
- coordinate and supervise a statewide RtI implementation plan;
- provide guidance to Educational Service Units (ESUs) in training for high-quality RtI implementation;
- supervise a quality RtI implementation process;
- coordinate and conduct RTI research and evaluation; and
- disseminate results about statewide RtI implementation.
The Consortium consists of an Executive Leadership team, an Administrative Team, and a Steering Committee. The Executive Leadership Team includes NDE personnel, the Consortium Co-Directors, and ESU representatives, and is responsible for oversight of an Administrative Team that includes a project manager, graduate assistants, a statistical consultant, and technology support personnel. The Steering Committee includes broad representation of educational stakeholders from throughout the state.
