Project TEAMS Adolescent Risk-Taking Behaviors and Outcomes: Reintegrating Juveniles into School Settings

The long-range goal for this project is to increase the graduation rate and reduce the recidivism rate for at risk youth (particularly those from racial/ethnic minority groups) who are reentering the Lincoln Public School system after long-term absence, out-of-school placement, suspension, or expulsion.

Project TEAMS (Transition, Education, Attendance, Motivation to Succeed) is a project designed to provide training and support for a mentor within LPS who guides students academically and behaviorally during their transition, increasing the likelihood that they remain in high school and graduate. A mentor within the LPS school system is trained to promote ongoing mentoring and targeted intervention use to reduce the recidivism rate and drop out rate among at risk youth in LPS and the state of Nebraska. The mentor creates relationships unique to each of the students and acts as their guide as they navigate their way to successfully graduating from high school and staying out of the judicial system.

Project TEAMS is a partnership between Lincoln Public Schools and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
