New database enhances early childhood research collaboration

A new faculty database has streamlined the process of identifying collaboration opportunities among University of Nebraska early childhood researchers.

The Nebraska Academy for Early Childhood Research has released the Find a Researcher database, an online directory of early childhood researchers. The database enables faculty to identify potential research partners from across the University of Nebraska system. Searches can be customized by researchers’ specific content areas, populations of interest, preferred research approach, research tools and methods. Full Article

CYFS releases 2016-17 Annual Report

CYFS has released its annual report for the 2016 fiscal year, which ran from July 2016 to June 2017.

This report features research using technology — including tablets, fMRI scanners and virtual reality — to explore questions related to children’s learning and development. It highlights international research in Brazil and Tanzania. And it includes projects taking place in Nebraska communities, from classrooms in Lincoln to after-school programs in rural school districts. Full Article

Rural education research webinar is Oct. 18

CYFS is presenting a free rural education research webinar Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to noon Central Standard Time. The webinar is open to all rural practitioners at school, district, state, and regional levels who routinely collaborate with researchers to design and implement educational research activities. Arizona State’s Mike Edwards, associate professor of quantitative psychology, led the Sept. 14-15 Emerging Scholars Series hosted by the MAP Academy. The event included a statistics workshop and a keynote presentation, which is now available via video. Full Article

Doctoral degree and university: Ph.D. in Family and Human Development (Specialization in Measurement and Statistical Analysis) from Arizona State University

Research areas of interest: My research focuses on motivation and socio-emotional regulation for optimal youth outcomes in the family and educational context. I am interested in addressing psychosocial factors for well-being and stress regulation in youth using salivary bioscience methods. Full Article

Study explores how to support caregivers affected by Zika virus

The mosquito-borne Zika virus has left hundreds of Brazilian families grappling with a new reality: caring for disabled infants and toddlers.

Natalie Williams, assistant professor of child, youth and family studies, is joining Brazilian researchers to explore how to support caregivers whose children have been affected by Congenital Zika Virus Syndrome, a neurological condition associated with cognitive and physical disabilities. Faculty invited to join early childhood research database

The Nebraska Academy for Early Childhood Research is inviting all faculty members with an interest in early childhood research to join an online, campus-wide database.

The database is designed to be easily searchable, allowing faculty to identify others who are doing research in their content area. The database will include faculty research areas and populations, as well as research tools, design and methods. Full Article

Moen presents research at Buffett symposium

Amanda Moen, CYFS graduate assistant, presented her research on family-school partnerships at the Buffett Institute Graduate Scholars Symposium on May 2.

She is one of three students in the inaugural class of the Buffett Institute Graduate Scholars, which provides funding for dissertation research. Full Article
