The University of Nebraska-Lincoln cordially invites you to mark your calendar for the arrival of a traveling exhibit that showcases a world-renowned approach to sparking children’s interest in science.

Taking place Friday, May 2 at 2 p.m. in UNL’s International Quilt Study Center and Museum, this opening ceremony and reception will introduce “Cultivate the Scientist in Every Child: The Philosophy of Frances and David Hawkins.” The exhibit illustrates concepts that form the core of the Hawkins' educational philosophy, which aims to encourage the natural curiosity and intellectual engagement that have driven the most important scientific advances of our age.

The event will feature remarks from Drs. Jay and Helen Featherstone – emeriti professors at Michigan State University and close friends of the late couple whose work inspired the exhibit – along with Dr. Ellen Hall, co-founder of the Hawkins Centers of Learning. It will also highlight numerous UNL initiatives in PK-12 STEM research and teacher education.

Please visit hawkinscenters.org/exhibit for more information on the exhibit. More details on the opening reception and subsequent workshops will follow in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you May 2!

Sincerely,

Carolyn Edwards, Ruth Heaton and Victoria Molfese

  About the Exhibit
Hawkins Exhibit

"Cultivate the Scientist in Every Child: The Philosophy of Frances and David Hawkins" is an educational exhibit created by the Hawkins Centers of Learning that celebrates and brings to life the work of this remarkable couple.

To this day, David’s educational approaches, largely informed by Frances’ insightful classroom observations, inspire professionals worldwide. His theories have strongly influenced the renowned schools for young children in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and contributed to science education innovations in the United States. "Cultivate the Scientist in Every Child" serves as both a tribute to Frances and David and a vehicle for sharing their timely message.
