Guidelines for Using Family-School Partnership Training Modules

The Family-School Partnership Training Modules have been designed for use as a tool kit for individuals interested in promoting evidence-based family-school partnership practices to achieve improved learning outcomes for children. They may be used by trainers, practitioners, graduate students, and researchers. All materials are appropriate for pre-service and in-service professional development.

A total of six modules have been developed by members of the Future of School Psychology Task Force on Family-School Partnerships. The six modules are:

Materials on the CD-rom are organized broadly by module. Within each module, information on evidence-based programs is available. Various formats used for training purposes include PowerPoint presentations, handouts and forms, activities, bibliographies, and other documents or materials. DVDs with video illustrations are also available for use with some modules (i.e., Overview and Parent Consultation).

Table of Contents and Guidelines for Use (when available): The Table of Contents details the contents and organization of each module. Materials (i.e., PowerPoint presentations, handouts, activities) are located in folders within each Module, and all materials are listed in the Table of Contents.  It is recommended that you begin by reviewing this table of contents and the guidelines for use when available, and then use the materials within each folder in a way that best suits your unique needs.

PowerPoint Presentations: Each PowerPoint presentation is designed to provide a framework for the materials covered in the module. Modules contain several PowerPoint presentations covering specific topics within each area. Each PowerPoint presentation serves as the primary guide for navigating through the module. All handouts, forms, activities, and other training documents are referenced in the PowerPoint presentations. It is recommended that users review the primary PowerPoint presentation within each module, which will serve as a guide for the remaining materials.

Handouts and Forms: Handouts referenced throughout the PowerPoint presentations are available within each module. All handouts are labeled for easy identification. Other forms for use in practice are also provided.

One Page Summaries: One page summaries of each evidence-based intervention, including select research findings supporting its efficacy, are included as handouts.

Activities: Several modules provide activities for use in training, such as role plays, discussion questions, and case study examples.

DVD Videos: Several modules include DVDs with supplemental video illustrations of the materials covered in the PowerPoint presentations.

Bibliography: All modules provide a bibliography of the sources used to compile the content and materials presented.
