The Multi-Tiered System of Support Implementation Support Team (IST) is involved in activities pertaining to regional professional development around key components of MTSS at core, intervention and individual student problem-solving (ISPS).

The MTSS IST will provide training and technical assistance based on data-identified needs for district/schools that have been working with the IST. Trainings focused at the core, intervention and individual student problem-solving levels will be provided. Many of the continuing schools will be focusing on the individual student problem-solving level. Though most districts are building and refining their implementation of MTSS reading supports, several districts are also working on building MTSS for math and behavior. This year the IST team will be partnering with the state Positive Behavior Interventions Supports (PBIS) team to implement evidence-based practices for academics and behavior within an MTSS framework in three pilot schools.

Twenty-eight districts have participated in the continuation of the Building and Refining (B&R) training series, which began during the 2015-16 school year. The initial focus of training and TA was on exploration and installation activities. Several of the B&R districts will continue their exploration and installation, and others will focus on activities for initial implementation of areas identified and planned for in the MTSS Implementation Plan.

Finally, the IST will follow Implementation Science Research when supporting these districts to achieve full implementation through continued planning around MTSS and continued use of problem-solving/improvement cycles.

In addition to trainings, each school/district participating in the B&R Training will be assigned a member of the MTSS Implementation Support Team (MTSS IST) to provide intensive ongoing technical assistance. Support will be provided both onsite and remote.
