Abstract
This project is funded by a subcontract from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The goal of the Addressing Chronic Absenteeism in a Networked Improvement Community (ACE NIC) is to bring together three Nebraska Class B and C high schools to develop a network dedicated to reducing chronic absenteeism.
Networked Improvement Communities are scientific learning communities that bring together site-based teams around a shared problem to identify a common aim and develop a deep understanding of the problem. These communities then use improvement science and Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles to test solutions and generate knowledge about how to make things work reliably within and across contexts.
Networked Improvement Communities facilitate shared learning across sites by harnessing the power of social learning. NICs are an emerging, evidence-based strategy for schools to tackle complex challenges by enlisting those closest to the problem to solve it and for creating capacity and infrastructure for continuous improvement.
