The Nebraska Academy for Early Childhood Research welcomes Brent McBride, professor of human development and director of the Child Development Laboratory at the University of Illinois, to Lincoln for a March 11 presentation.

The event will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Louise Pound Hall 141, and is open to the public. It is co-hosted by NAECR and the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies.

McBride’s presentation, “University-Based Child Development Laboratory Schools: A Vision for the Future,” will focus on strategies that enable university-based child development laboratory schools to successfully balance the demands associated with providing high-quality early care and education services, while also maximizing teaching, research and outreach/engagement activities.

The presentation will be followed by a roundtable discussion.

McBride is the one of the leading researchers in the area of father involvement in families of children with disabilities. His cutting-edge research provides critical insight on how to better support fathers struggling within this challenging parenting context, as well as early intervention personnel working with these families.

He also studies university-based laboratory schools as a context for child development research, as well as the role of child care contexts on childhood obesity and nutritional status, the impact of paternal involvement in families of children with disabilities on maternal and child outcomes, and the antecedents and consequences of father involvement.
