Retreat draws translational science experts, interdisciplinary scholars

Impacting communities begins with building community.
That was the message and purpose of the Sept. 19 Interdisciplinary Science Retreat, which drew more than 75 UNL researchers from the social, educational and behavioral sciences. The event provided opportunities to learn from national experts, identify local expertise and facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations.
Sept. 19 Interdisciplinary Translational Science Retreat open to UNL faculty, students

National experts in translational science will present at UNL’s Nebraska Union on Sept. 19 as part of the 2016 Interdisciplinary Translational Science Retreat.
Hosted by CYFS and five UNL colleges and organizations, the all-day retreat will focus on translational science for social, behavioral and educational research fields. Speakers include Diana Fishbein, Penn State University; Elaine Wethington, Cornell University; and Richard Spoth, Iowa State University.
Bullying Prevention Conference draws early childhood educators, researchers

The 25-year-old singer, Lady Gaga, had just finished another international concert. She had just finished listening to yet more stories from young fans struggling with bullying and mental health issues. And she knew she had to do something about it.
CYFS joins UNL-Brazil early childhood partnership

CYFS joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in launching an early childhood research initiative with Brazil during a meeting held May 18-19 in São Paulo.
The working meeting drew 60 early childhood scholars, policymakers and educators from Brazil and UNL with the purpose of forming collaborative teams to conduct future research. UNL’s representation included 13 faculty members from CYFS and the College of Education and Human Sciences.
Local, global research shared at early childhood summit

The 2016 CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood highlighted the power of partnerships, both local and global. Service providers, educators, administrators and researchers converged in Lincoln, Nebraska, on April 7 to learn the latest science in early childhood—and its implications for practice and policy.
