NAECR Knowledge/Networking event explores creative data collection during pandemic

In the age of COVID-19, researchers face new data collection challenges — including how to safely conduct home observations.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began last spring, early childhood researchers have faced new challenges in their work — including how to effectively gather data in the age of social distancing and remote learning.

The first of two combined NAECR Knowledge/Networking events of the fall semester explored creative data collection methods to consider when working with children, families and early childhood practitioners during the pandemic. Full Article

Nebraska-Brazil early childhood research partnership continues to thrive

While there are distinct differences between the U.S. and Brazil, there are even more things the two countries have in common. In particular, a desire to ensure all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential guides the work of early childhood educators, researchers and other professionals in both parts of the world. MAP Academy’s Chen earns Dean’s Fellowship

Donna Chen, MAP Academy graduate research assistant, has earned a 2020-21 Dean’s Fellowship through the Office of Graduate Studies.

Donna Chen, MAP Academy graduate research assistant, has earned a Dean’s Fellowship for the 2020-21 academic year through the Office of Graduate Studies for her “outstanding academic performance and scholarly potential.”

Chen is a fifth-year doctoral student in the Quantitative, Qualitative and Psychometric Methods program. She is working primarily on the Equity in Engineering and TAPP Latino projects. Full Article

Sheridan named CEHS associate dean for research and creative activity

CYFS Director Sue Sheridan has been named associate dean for research and creative activity for the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Congratulations to CYFS Director Sue Sheridan, who has been named associate dean for research and creative activity for the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Sheridan will continue as CYFS director. Lisa Knoche, research associate professor, is now co-director of the center and will assist in strategic and operational activities. Full Article

The NAECR Early Childhood Measures Exchange is a new online tool designed to help researchers collaborate on early childhood assessments.

A new tool from the Nebraska Academy for Early Childhood Research is now available to help researchers collaborate on early childhood assessments.

NAECR’s Early Childhood Measures Exchange is designed to help researchers find, explore and access early childhood assessments available from other NAECR researchers. Full Article

Where did you work prior to joining CYFS? What was your role there, and what did it entail?

Before joining CYFS, I worked 12 years at the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office as budget director. My responsibilities included developing and controlling the department’s multi-million-dollar agency budget, obtaining and managing federal grants to expand the operating budget, and preparing written and oral presentations to the governor and Legislature to justify appropriations requests. I also oversaw project management between agencies and administration, monitored and audited monthly revenue and expenditures, took part in strategic planning for budgeting and staffing operations, and various other things such as benefit enrollment, human resources, payroll, accounts payable and deposits.
